    The eclipse of the sun didn't bother the fish, and Taylor Jean from Brielle made the most of it as Jay Monteverde boated a 72-pound white marlin to take the lead for over 2 million before Jamie Diller of Stone Harbor brought in a second place white on Canyon Lady that was exactly at the contest's 65-pound minimum. The first day totals were 133 whites (8 boated) 8 blue marlin (two weighed, but under the 400-pound contest minimum) 20 tuna 14 dolphin and the one wahoo.

    Late entries have been building up the field for the 26th MidAtlantic Tournament all day at the captains meeting. Two anglers caught 7-pound class fluke, and some large sea bass were also boated.

    Captain John Lewis of the Insatiable reports strong fluke fishing with double digit catches each day. He had the Pelenski family out to the Little Egg Reef for a half day of non-stop action with fluke including two keepers, plus sea robins.

    Capt. Erwin Heinrich of Scales N Tales from Twin Lights Marina in Highlands was disappointed in the fluke action he found Wednesday after the run east to Atlantic Beach Reef as even short fluke were scarce while lots of jigs were sacrificed to the sticky bottom that usually harbors larger fluke. The big money white marlin looked to be sewed up by The Griffin from Palm Beach with an 86-pounder, but on the last day there was a 95.

    Capt. Dave De Gennaro has had consistent action while chumming for mostly brown sharks in the 3-to-5-foot range with fairly light tackle from his Hi Flier out of Barnegat within five miles of the inlet. De Gennaro says the weather is shaping up for open trips offshore Sunday and Monday as he has reports of 20-to-60-pound tuna just 45 miles offshore.

I from Bahrs in Highlands GOOD fishing with multiple limits August 15, 2017 Whatever swell that was forecast to be present the past couple of days was nowhere to be found again today and the fluke were hungry. Multiple fluke and sea bass limits for the guys and gals today.

    Capt. Ron Santee said fluking on his Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands was picky today, but another big fluke (8 3 8 pounds) took the pool. There was only a little swell today which made the fluke more aggressive for the guys and gals who worked both the natural baits as well as the Gulps and or Spros.

    Doormat fluke have been scarce this season, but that's what it took to win Saturday's Salt Water Anglers of Bergen County Fluke Tournament. The SWABC posted the following Salt Water Anglers of Bergen County, New Jersey The winners of the Salt Water Anglers of Bergen County 2017 Fluke Tournament are as follows 1st- Mike Menzel, Steve Liberty, Don Liberty, Ed Codding 2nd- Jeff Crilly, Scott Crilly, Sean Smida, Lou Derosa, Bob Hryszko 3rd- Bob Cameron First place was 25 pounds for three fish Second-place was 23.

    The Jamaica from Brielle had great action today with bonito from 3 to 6 pounds plus blues from 2 to 5 pounds -- and added some Spanish mackerel. The Big Mohawk from Belmar had OK fluking as there were many 3-to-5-pounders and limit catches.
