Captain's Focus

I doubt that anyone went fishing on the nastiest Sunday of the year with both high winds and steady rain during the morning. It looks like the rain is over, but there's a lot more north wind coming on Columbus Day. The Cock Robin from Point Pleasant has cancelled until Tuesday, and anglers should check with skippers before coming down in the morning. Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den  Belmar Marina, reports blackfishing has been excellent in Shark River Inlet, with anglers catching as many as 30 -- though the vast majority are shorts. No winter flounder have been caught in the river so far, but one was hooked in the inlet. Bonito have been scarce this year, but Jonathon Schmulenberger boated a 12 1/4-pounder on the Golden Eagle.
