Captain's Focus

Capt. Joe Bogan reports his Jamaica II from Brielle has had many porgy limits along with some of sea bass to 6.5 pounds during offshore wreck trips. A few cod up to 14 pounds provide pool winners. The last 1 a.m. limited reservation trips will be run on Dec. 15,22 and 31. After that the winter schedule starts with Wednesday and Sunday trips at 3 a.m. -- and Saturdays at 3 a.m. Jay Amberg reported there was no one fishing at Sea Girt this morning in rain and discolored waters. Miss Belmar Princess saw stripers on top Sunday, and also read plenty of them, but caught only a few each drift as they seemed to be turned off by the cold water. As a result, they will not be sailing this week -- but will try the weekend if it appears stripers are responding again. If not they'll wait for signs of mackerel arriving. Capt. Stan Zagleski said he had a good pick of short and legal blackfish over the weekend on his Elaine B II from Bahrs in Highlands. Tuesday and Wednesday look fishable.
