Captain's Focus

The Big Mohawk from Belmar got out today, but found blackfishing to be very sluggish -- with just a few keepers. They'll be back at it at 7 a.m. Saturday. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar didn't have a report today, but fought a big ground swell and north wind on Thursday for a few tog that included a 12-pounder. Capt. Charlie Fornabio, formerly of Belmar, had better news from Wabasso, Florida as follows: "Its been a typical winter so far. Mostly mild temperatures with a cold front wedged in here and there. Water temperatures have dropped a bit but still are in the 70 degree range. The hottest fishing has been in the Wabasso area where the pompano bite has been very consistent on Docs Goofy jigs. Fishing continues to be good if you are looking for some of the wintertime catch of drum and sheepshead. They are around almost any deep structure this time of year. Some nice trout have been hanging along the deeper cuts and edges of sand bars in the 4-6 foot depths. Snook fishing around the inlets and bridges has held up nicely for night time anglers. Looks like the winds are laying down as the week progresses. Be well,Capt Charlie Fornabiofishingverobeach.com772 360 7647"
