Captain's Focus

Unless the winter storm forecast is very wrong, there will be no fishing for a couple of days. There were no reports before the storm on Sunday, but the Ocean Explorer from Belmar had a late report from Saturday when there were lots of bites though only a dozen keeper blackfish were boated. Joe Greco, formerly of Edison, had much better news from his retirement home in Ft. Myers, Florida. The weather was just fine this week for a charter he had with Playing Hooky from that port. Long rides are required to get well offshore to deeper waters and good bottom fishing. Capt. Ramsey Drummond had some numbers that had produced "flag" yellowtail snappers recently, and there were so many there that they ran out of ice and came back early with all the fish Greco's party could handle. Though the gag grouper season is closed, they did release some big ones while adding some red groupers, amberjack and king mackerel.
