Captain's Focus

Dedicated surfcaster Allen Riley of South Plainfield checked several favored areas today and filed the following report: "Took a run down to the Shore today with my wife -- just to "get out."  Wanted to check the shoreline anyway.  Hit Sandy Hook, Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach, and Long Branch. First impression: all those communities are gearing up for the summer high season.  Lots of activity. The shorelines in the above-named communities look in good shape after the long winter months.  Lots of sand; no visible troughs. Sea Bright and Long Branch DO plan to enforce on-street fees for parking but only between May 1 and September 30, and even then only between 9 am and 5 pm.  There are no fees or restrictions before May 1 or after September 30. Sandy Hook ALREADY has put up the fenced-off stretches of beach -- and there are BIG sections involved -- to protect the pain-in-the-butt piping plovers.  Of course, Sandy Hook's go right down to the water line which makes fishing really tough for surfcasters.  Check the attached photos for a view of the fencing and the accompanying warning signs. PS  No one seen fishing anywhere.  The Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor party boat fleet is quiet.  Most boats are not yet in the water; two are in the water with their signs posted, but the boats were moored at their docks."   3 Attached Images
