Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park recorded their first striper weigh-in today with a 30.5-inch, 7.8-pounder that hit a shad lure in the surf for Lou DeFontney -- who had tagged and released two bass last week. Betty & Nick's in Seaside Park reported one of their regulars braved the northwest wind this morning to fish blood worms from the 14th Ave, Pier for two stripers -- including a keeper. That shop has both fresh clams in the shell and shucked. The Golden Eagle from Belmar got out for their first striper trip, but the weather turned out to be unfavorable. That prevented them from covering all areas. and resulted in an over 2-knot drift. However, they did see bird life and read both bait and fish. Sunday looks like a better bet. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar fished for blackfish on Friday, and did find some life as a few fares managed two keepers plus shorts despite a big swell.
