Captain's Focus

The first weakfish report came in from Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park after C.J. Ratshin weighed in a 21-inch, 4-pounder caught on a shad in Barnegat Bay yesterday. Blues remained abundant there, and in the inlet. Some are being caught on bait in the surf, but heavy sinkers were needed Saturday in the hard south wind. There was a good report from the Queen Mary out of Point Pleasant as they got some blues up to 12 pounds in the river on shads before adding others in the ocean. The high hook ended up with six blues. The Golden Eagle from Belmar ran five miles south to get in a good early shot of blues on jigs. At Atlantic Highlands, the Sea Hunter had a good start with blues and a keeper bass before a lull with just a few blues. After noon, it picked up again. Prowler 5 started out with a legal bass on the flats  plus some shorts and a few blues. Then it got overcast and cold. They won't be sailing again until Tuesday.
