Captain's Focus

The exceptional run of giant blues continued today. The Golden Eagle from Belmar loaded up on both Run-Off Hammer jigs and bait. Some sea bass to 5 pounds were added along with two little tunny. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant got into the blues up to 19.5 pounds on jigs and added some sea bass. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar had to pick through a lot of short sea bass in order to come up with a good catch, and also had to move away from dogfish at times. The surf is starting to produce more stripers. Vinny D'Anton of Wall fished north of Shark River to catch four small bass this morning on the Tsunami Sand Eel in the west wind, but both Tommy Cox and I worked the same area after the southeast wind came up this afternoon and never had a hit. That wind usually turns off a surf bite. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park heard of some bass in the surf on bait, and weighed one of 30 inches and 8.8 pounds that hit bunker for Terri Bahlinger. They reported a drop in water temperature to 61.9 degrees.
