The Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands had a great day Sunday with striped bass, but today was even better. Capt. Rob Semkewyc had a boat limit of keepers in short order before leaving them to do the same with bonus bass. Then he went back to the bigger bass to finish up the trip as his fares released over 100 stripers from 28 to 32 inches. There were no shorts caught during the best striper trip of the season -- and Capt. Rob had it all to himself!
The Sea Hunter will be sailing tomorrow for what should be almost a sure thing, but Wednesday's weather may be a problem.
The Gambler from Point Pleasant didn't get out today for stripers, but will be shaping up until Friday and Saturday when they'll be on offshore sea bass wreck trips. They have room on those sea bass trips. Call 732 295-7569 for reservations.
Small stripers continue to keep surfcasters busy. I fished Spring Lake at dawn and released 10 on the Tsunami Sand Eel and Castaways Super Teaser. The afternoon there was very slow, but I fished to almost dark before catching two. Vinny D'Anton of Wall hooked a 24-incher -- which is large for this run. He had done very well in the morning with a Mirr-O-Lure.
Jerry Lasko of Point Pleasant and Maren Tolano from Mantoloking had a decent bite of small bass in the evening at Lavallette, including a 25-incher for her.
