Captain's Focus

With windy weather predicted for tomorrow, the Ocean Explorer from Belmar will wait for Friday before trying blackfishing again. There was almost too little wind on Monday when they sailed on calm seas--  but had a hard time anchoring without some wind. Fishing remained very slow, with only one keeper tog to take a hefty pool, plus a small cod, a few small pollock, and a few mackerel and whiting. They will be fishing offshore in 130 to 180 feet on Friday. Vinny D'Anton of Wall has been getting some daylight action with small blues near his winter home in Sarasota, but after 45 minutes they turn off completely on his Chug Bug. Other anglers fishing from shore there also couldn't  catch anything after that early bite before D'Anton went back to his car for a plug that often works in N.J. after the surface action dies out. Not only did the sinker version of the SP Minnow in chicken scratch work, but D'Anton got 15 more blues with it as other anglers could only watch.
