Captain's Focus

The annual Hi-Mar Striper Club Fishing Flea Market and Seminars event willl be held tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Port Monmouth VFW  at 1 Veterans Lane -- off Rt. 36. I'll be there sharing some space with striper pro Chuck Many to sell my books plus a few "treasures" from my basement. Stop by and say hello, Many also has a striper seminar at 10. The Salt Water Anglers of Bergan County follow on Sunday with their flea market in the Hasbrouck Heights VFW at 13 Veterans Avenue.  The Jamaica from Brielle has been losing trips to the weather, but Capt. Howard Bogan plans to sail to the far offshore wrecks at 2 a.m. Saturday for jumbo porgies plus a shot at cod and pollock.  Reservations are required. Call 732 528-5014.  The ASMFC Summer Flounder, Scup and Black Sea Bass Management Board changed the regional arrangement to make N.J. a region of its own with 30.34 percent of the sea bass quota. There was also good news on fluke as the quota is up 17 percent from last year. The Board approved the various plans proposed by all of the states. With scup also in good shape, New Jersey's proposal to have a year-round season was approved. I'll have more about all of this in future blogs.
