After a promising Trip to Shark River Reef on Tuesday, the Ocean Explorer from Belmar was surprised to find the water temperature down to 37.5 degrees upon returning Friday. I spoke to ex Belmar skipper Mike Verges at today's Hi-Mar Striper Club flea Market, who said it was encouraging to see plenty of bergall and eel action on the bottom Tuesday -- along with a few blackfish, cod and pollock. However, on Friday there was little biting except a few spiny dogfish -- though he did jig a couple of mackerel and saw a nice tautog boated.   The Ocean Explorer was out today, but won't be fishing Sunday due to the wind forecast. The Hi-Mar event was very well attended, and the club ended up making money for the fishing trips they arrange for kids.
