Captain's Focus

Capt. Howard Bogan reports there was fine jumbo sea bass and porgy fishing plus some bluefish Saturday on far offshore wrecks he's fishing with the Jamaica from Brielle. Sea bass up to 7.5 pounds were boated. With water temperatures out there at 56 degrees, that fishing should go on for some time -- but the season will close after Dec. 31.  Special limited trips at $180 have been added on Dec. 12, 14, 17 and 21. These trips return the following day. There will also be the regularly scheduled Friday night departure at 10 p.m. There was no need to wait for any reports today. The northeaster will leave a big east swell even as the winds switch to the northwest. That should calm the surf eventually, but it will probably take a couple of tide changes to clear the waters enough for a shot at any school stripers that may be left.
