The big swell from the hurricane off Bermuda was great for surfers, but not for surfcasters or ocean bottom fishing. Jay Russell caught a small striper Friday evening at Spring Lake on a Tsunami Eel, but the only other report was from Joe Melillo at Castaways Tackle in Point Pleasant who said Mickey Sweeney of Howell caught a bass on a sand flea in the same area this morning. The sea bass season reopened today with a 15-bass bag limit, but there were no reports. Big bluefish were still hitting Friday night for the Golden Eagle from Belmar, but there were no reports from the Shore bluefish fleet today.
