Captain's Focus

Anglers who want to catch and keep a trophy bluefin tuna in the southern area from off Little Egg Inlet to the Gulf of Mexico can only do so up to 11:30 p.m. on Friday. The mere 2.8-metric ton quota of large medium and giant bluefin tuna (73 inches and up curved fork length) in the southern area is expected to be filled by then. Trophy bluefins may be caught in the Angling and Charter/Headboat categories, but only one may be kept per year -- and it cannot be sold. There's also a still open quota for them in the northern area north of little Egg Inlet. The Big Mac from Green Harbor, Ma. had the Hartiston party from Bergen County aboard for the first trip of the season yesterday. Cod are closed until April 15, but they loaded up with big haddock plus pollock.
