Captain's Focus

The earthworms may have signaled that the time is right for stripers when they crawled to the surface  in Friday's rain, but a skipper who attempted clamming all over Raritan Bay today only had one bite to show for his effort. The strong west wind may have had something to do with that -- and it looks better for Sunday. Capt. Hans Kaspersetz tried for stripers from shore at Keyport on Friday with tapeworms dug on the spot. He didn't do anything, but said others there caught a few small bass. There was a good turnout for Friday night's IGFA Fundraiser at Doolan's in Spring Lake Heights as 160 guests kept the N.J. event as the top IGFA fundraiser in the world.  There were also plenty of anglers at this morning's grand opening of the new Reel Seat location in the old Brielle Galleries on Rt. 71 in Brielle.  Dave Arbeitmen has 3 1/2 times more display space now, plus a second floor that will be used for seminars.
