Captain's Focus

Once again, there were no fishing reports, so I had to come up with one myself even if it is negative. I tried the Sea Girt surf this morning even though there was a big swell rolling from Saturday's wind. The surf was rough but fishable, and there was enough water. However, at this time of year I don't expect to catch anything unless conditions are close to perfect -- and I didn't.  The current NW wind should calm the surf. The word at Castaway's Tackle in Point Pleasant was that the surf temperature was down to 35 degrees. That doesn't bode well for a repeat of last January's surf action with school stripers -- but you never know unless you try it. Castaway's regular, Mike Commune, was badly injured in that big pile-up of cars last week when light rain froze instantly on the Beaver Dam bridge. A woman was killed, but Mike escaped with just cuts and bruises that will hopefully be fully healed before stripers return to Point Pleasant Canal.
