Capt. Scotty Hilliard reported a decent pick of blackfish today, with about 20 keepers plus many shorts caught from his Prowler V out of Atlantic Highlands while fishing in 50 to 70 feet. It was very cold, but calm. He'll be fishing on New Years Day from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Jamaica from Brielle will sail to far offshore wrecks for jumbo porgies at 1 a.m. on Saturdays in the winter after the sea bass season is closed on New Years Day. The plan is to load up on the abundant scup before fishing mid-range wrecks for cod, pollock and ling.
Capt. Jimmy Elliott reported that the Golden Eagle from Belmar hasn't sailed for mackerel since Sunday -- and will only fish for them on weekends until they become well-established within range. Â Jerry Lasko of Point Pleasant couldn't find any school stripers in his local surf during early morning and mid-afternoon attempts, but he heard of another angler catching one around mid-morning.
