Captain's Focus

Sorry for the blank that occurred, as the system swallowed my blog.To summerize: Today's huge waves made surfcasting virtually impossible, but the west wind should knock that sea down and clear the surf over the next couple of days. The Jamaica from Brielle had limits of sea bass Saturday on far offshore wrecks. They sail again at 11 p.m. Monday. Call 732 528-5014 for reservations.  It felt great this morning as the streets were dry and the weather mild, but one look at the huge waves crashing on the outer bar indicated it would be a day for surfers rather than surfcasters. Though it was rough during Saturday's northeaster, the surf was still clear at that tome and provided classic white-water surfcasting. Today's surf was dirty, and there didn't seem to be any hope of finding stripers in it. The west wind should knock those seas down over the next day or two, but it may take a couple of tide changes to clear the waters. At Brielle, Capt. Howard Bogan said Saturday's far offshore wreck trip on his Jamaica produced sea bass limits for all plus porgy limits for some. Steve Boyland of Chester won the pool with a 6.5-pound sea bass. The next trip sails at 11 p.m. Monday. Call 732 528-5014 for reservations. Capt. Ryan Bogan got out to Mud Hole wrecks on Saturday with Jamaica II, but fishing was poor in 10-foot seas.  It was better during the week for ling plus a 21-pound cod, and for blackfish inshore.
