Captain's Focus

4/23/15: Hold on, we have a Carolyn Ann news flash! Since the NMFisheries wont let us fish for sea bass until May 26 (my mistake on the last report), which is the Tuesday after the holiday weekend, on the Memorial weekend, (Sat and Sunday only), we will be fishing for stripers and/or blues. I can't believe they would not even give us the holiday weekend for sea bass. Either way, we ARE going fishing that weekend. Monday 5/25/15, we will be be staying in, and on Tuesday we will start sailing every day, well into September!

4/20/15: We don't have a whole lot to report on last weekend's fishing. The water temp was still 40 degrees on the bottom, and all we caught were a few short cod and short blackfish. The weather was absolutely gorgeous on Saturday, almost too nice; with no real wind, anchoring was very touchy. On Sunday it was the opposite; in fact, we turned the trip into 4 hours instead of the usual 6 hours, and got in before it got too nasty.

This Saturday and Sunday will be the last trip until May 27 (the opening of sea bass season). Blackfish season closes the end of April so that doesn't give us much to target. And that's probably when they will start biting! The Carolyn Ann will be sailing every day starting 5/27/15 through the end of September. It's time to get out the paint brushes and give her a makeover topside! See you soon!
