Captain's Focus

11/1/14: This was a very long week of fishing. A lot of moving around, wreck to wreck, trying to get a decent catch. It would have been a lot easier if we didn't have a dog problem! Half the time you were straightening out your rig after you and your neighbor would bring in a dogfish. Getting rid of any higher hooks and fishing with just one lower hook helped a lot, and I thank the fishermen with their cooperation with that matter. There were a few sea bass around plus a few trigger fish, ask Greg Witalec of Philadelphia, PA, who won with a 3-lb trigger, and Ben Martin of Manahawkin, NJ, who also won with a 3.5-lb trigger. The next two winners were also won by triggers, first was Scott Wright of Maple Shade, NJ, 3.5-lber and Steve Lawaich of Pt. Pleasant, NJ, with a nice 4-lber. Triggers were the money fish! Also Harold Case of Roslyn, PA won with a sea bass weighing 2.8 lbs.

The sea bass season this fall would have been great, if it wasn't for the bad weather. Each easterly blow would push the sea bass offshore and the dogs came, which didn't help matters. We did have a few days with limits and it felt like old times again! The fish were there thick and a lot of dinners were made!

The CAIII will be not sailing again until the opening of the blackfish season. Unfortunately the season starts on a Sunday, Nov 16 (who in the hell forgot to bring the calendar to to the meeting!). We will be sailing weekends, Saturdays and Sundays only, and we will have green crabs. Hope to see you there!
