Captain's Focus

9/30/14: The last week of fluke season was pretty disappointing. We only sailed on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday. The pool winners were Rich Weikel of Hatboro, PA on Monday with a 4.3-lb fluke and Jim Wolosin of Brownsmills, NJ, won on Tuesday with a 5.5-lber (way to go, Jimmy!) Then, the agonizing wait for the seas and wind to calm down, and finally, on Saturday we were able to sail again! The last day and the lucky winner was Jule Majesky of Haven Beach, NJ, who not only caught the pool winner, weighing in at 2 lbs, but it was the only keeper on board! LUCKY, I mean the skills that this man has are immeasurable!

The northeaster we had earlier in the week had chased most of our fluke offshore, or they could be buried on the bottom deep and will not bite until the swell has died down. Either way the season was good. I had a lot of fishermen tell me this. Nice-sized fish and some limits later part of the season were frequent. Speaking of nice fish, a big congratulations to Kenny "D" of Philadelphia, PA, who is once again our annual tournament leader, with a 8.03-lb fluke.

The next time we will sail is October 18 for sea bass. Same time, 8 am to 2:00-2:30pm, daily. Don't put any equipment away just yet, these are the best eating fish! Let's see you aboard and enjoy the ocean and its bounty, before winter comes in. Sea you at sea,

Gina
