Captain's Focus

9/21/14: It was a very productive week! That's when the ocean wasn't kicking our butts around, and even when we fished in some real rough seas we did still catch, as long as you had 12 oz on. Either way, we had a lot of fish between the 6- to 7-lb range and many other keepers, like the 6.6-lb fluke caught by John (Cheeseman) Weber of Beach Haven West, NJ, who won the pool, and a beautiful 7-lber caught by Jack Conlan of Bristol, PA. The seas were rough that day, so we fished inside the inlet and that's where Jack landed that fish! John Snyder of Haven Beach, NJ won with a nice 5-lb flattie and Glen Storm of Manahawkin, NJ won with a 6-lber. Thomas Lipiros of Ventnor, NJ won the money with a 5.5-lb fluke and Joe McGovern of Sharon Hill, PA won with a 5.8-lber. Also Rich Rolenc of Manahawkin, NJ won with a 5.8-lber.

Ok, this is it! Come now or pack the fluking gear up for the season! We have only until Saturday, September 27 (you would think they could at least gave us the whole weekend). After that the boat will not be sailing until October 18, that's the opening of sea bass season. We will sail daily the first week or two, depending on the amount of fish available. We threw back some big sea bass this past week, and hopefully they will stick around for a while. Let's get our licks in this week for the fluke and end the 2014 season with a bang! Hope to sea you there!
