Captain's Focus

9/14/14: Let's start backwards: yesterday (Sunday) was the beginning of last week, due to the horrible weather earlier. No sail on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and actually we sailed Thursday and had to come in early due to rough seas. Friday we sailed a full trip and caught a few nice fish, then Saturday we tried! Oh well, it happens once in a while, we had to turn around! Hey, safety first! OK, it's water under the boat, and here to salvage the week are the pool winners, like Marcus Bonilla of Cranbury, NJ, who had stiff competition but won with a nice 5.7-lb fluke, also Dennis Haney of Lumberton, NJ won with a nice 6-lb fluke, and Ren Noticy of Barnaget Light, NJ won with a nice 4-lber, and again on Thursday with a 6-lber. I'm not going to discuss too much of last week, but what I could gather is, if you catch a snapper blue, sea robin, or any other bait fish, fillet it and put it on! The fish are hungry and fresh meat was the ticket. Even if your jigging with gulp, tip it off with meat! Short pieces! We have some decent weather coming up, so let's make it count. September 27 is the last day of fluking, put the other jobs aside, they can wait, rearrange any appointments, and, get out there! This is it! Two weeks left! Let's hope for calm seas and the fish bountiful! Sea you there, Gina
