Captain's Focus

8/25/14: The summer is winding down and it feels like it with these cool mornings and north and northeast winds we have been getting. The beginning of the week was pretty good with some really nice fluke caught; toward the end of the week it was a struggle. No one enjoys drifting with 12 ounces, but you do what you can to get them in the boat, like George Decowsky of West Chester, PA, who won the pool with a 5.2-lb fluke. Also tell Jim McIntyer of Clementon, NJ, who won two pools on Sunday, with a 3-lber and a 3.8-lber in the afternoon trip (you worked for those fish!). Another double pool winner was John Snyder of Haven Beach, NJ, who took 2X the money with a 6.8-lber and a 5-lber on the second trip! Pays to stay! Also Frank Demeglio won (even with one arm in a sling), the crew helped him land a 4.5-lber, and Jeff Bauer of Manahawkin, NJ won with 3.2-lb flattie. William Doscher of Waretown, NJ won with a nice 5.2-lber and Mike Rinaldi of Bedford Hills, NY won with a 3.8-lber. Tom Miller has been a regular pool winner and this time with a 5.5-lb fluke and Justin Stefanidis of Margate, NJ took the money with a 6.1-lb beauty. Way to go, Justin! This week is the last for the two 4-hour daily trips, starting Friday, 8/29, it's back to the one 6-hour daily trip, 8 am to 2-2:30 pm. We have still a solid month to fish for fluke, let's use the weather to our advantage, nice breezy days for drift, the water is warm and clear, everything is looking great for a terrific Sept. Let's pray for no storm! Looking forward to seeing you there. See you at sea, Gina
