Captain's Focus

6/9/14: Hey hey the summer is almost underway! The humidity and the T'storms were mainly inland last week; all we got was a few showers and some fog. Also had some swell and chop from the east, which kept us in on Wednesday day trip. Full moon was upon us also with a wicked northerly current lasting for days. But we did manage to catch a decent amount of sea bass and ling to put on the table. Tell that to Dave Mitchell of Harvey Cedars, NJ, who won the pool with a 3.2-lb sea bass, and with his brother Pete went home with a bucket full of nice sea bass. Also the winner was Jim Wolosin of Medford, NJ, who won the money with a 3.5-lber. Jimmy McIntyire of Clementon, NJ won with a nice 3.4-lb sea bass and last but not least was Nathan Harris of Greenville, NC, 10 years old, who took everyone's money and won the pool with a nice 3.2-lb sea bass. Nice job, Nathan! We have definitely seen a decrease in the catch this past week; not sure if to blame on the conditions, or the moon, or the current, or the spawn, but we are continuing to sea bass this coming week due to the fact that we are still catching some nice fish and quite a few ling! Hey, sorry about all the blackfish we tossed back, especially one 8-lb+, which we released in a hurry. Fluking for us is right around the corner! Maybe the weekend if conditions are good. Let's watch the weather. Just a special thanks to the guys who take the time to put together fishing trips for groups who probably wouldn't get out if it wasn't for these guys. First, Michael Burns and Doug Burns with the Winston School, which was such a fun trip and the dolphins made it the best ever! Hope to see you next year. Also the Lacey Elks had their annual Veterans fishing trip, run by John Weish, it was a bit rough, but the Vets did great! Nice to have you back, John. And also Jason Hoch from the Southern Regional High School Fishing Club, it definitely was a fun trip. A few nice sea bass, tried some jigging for blues in the inlet (which the tide was a bit too low), but these kids were rocking! FUN FUN FUN! Also the Fathers Day trip was great! Fishing was a little slow but a great time was had. Seeing the guys and girls out fishing together was a precious day. Thank you, sea you at sea! Gina
