Captain's Focus

4/22/14: It finally happened, the boat sailed Fri, Sat, and Mon! Let's backtrack, Monday was the best day for fishing. Jeff Bauer of Manahawkin, NJ, won the pool with a 4-lb blackfish and also caught his limit. Some guys had one or two fish and some had just shorts but the bite was definitely better than Friday and Saturday. There was a good-sized swell but very fishable. On Saturday it was a pretty day, "Nice to be on the water," everyone said, after that horrible winter. The bite was slow but we managed to get some, like a nice 4.5-lber pool-winner caught by Jim McIntyre of Shamong, NJ. Not far behind him was Bob Wallace with a 3.5-lb LOBSTER and a 3.5-lb blackfish! Nice catch, I never heard so many people scream NET! Ha!Friday was the slowest day because of the conditions mainly, but once again Jeff Bauer won the pool with a 5-lb blackfish. Man, he is on fire! It was overall a pretty fair couple of days, water temp was 42 and 44 degrees on the bottom, so that's not helping. I expect the bite to improve for this coming Fri, Sat, Sun and Monday as long as the weather holds up. And yes, due to the closure of blackfish after April 30, we will be sailing on Monday, April 28. Hope to sea you there! Gina
