Captain's Focus

07/31/2012 We finally got in our first Bluefin trip of the season on Tuesday. On board we had (2) Joe's, Kevin, John, Peter Z and Eric (In Pursuit). We cleared the Inlet at 3:30AM into a calm ocean and headed south to the Tuna grounds. By the time we started to fish the weather took a turn for the worse and we spent the day drifting in a snappy ESE wind and a rough ocean. We were the only boat out today and Paul spent the first 2 hours searching for bait and Tuna reads. We finally settled in an area that looked like a target rich environment and the crew went to work. Although they got knocked around for most of the day they all toughed it out and went 6 for 10 on nice Bluefin. Pete Z put the Under fish (43") in the boat and went 3 for 4 followed by Eric's 2 for 4 and Joe's 1 fish at 44" which was released. John fought a Brown Shark for 10 minutes that took a Pink Spanko jig but lost it at boatside. All the fish were caught on Pink & Glo Spanko Jigs, Hammered Chrome Diamond Jigs and Silver Stingos. We had an opportunity to field test a new Rod built by Jersey Tackle. It performed very well and was built on a 250 Gram Bushido Blank at 6'-6" in length. Our next Open Boat Bluefin Tuna trips are scheduled for Aug. 19th, 21st & 23rd. Call 732-323-8700 today to reserve your spot.
