Captain's Focus

The Ocean Explorer from Belmar reported calm seas and mild temperatures today while a lively bottom produced a few keeper cod plus some ling and small pollock as well as the usual bergalls and dogfish. A few mackerel were even hooked. The pool cod hit a Jigging World jig.  Sunday looks to be another great day to be offshore. The Tackle Box in Hazlet reports the water temperature got up to 52 degrees Friday at Keansburg, but they're still only hearing about short stripers on clams despite such an abundance of bunkers that anglers feel as if they're getting hits. Yet, even Matt Calabria hasn't been able to catch any stripers on chunks so far even though he's been trying day and night. There's also been no word on flounder, though one boater went out with chum this morning -- but hasn't reported in as yet.
