The Jamaica from Brielle reported catching some small blues outside the inlet this morning before moving to a school of bunkers that had stripers up to 40 pounds under it. That was in contrast to Thursday when only a few small blues were picked before a last effort at stripers produced a school of bass under bunkers that resulted in a catch of linesiders to 40 pounds on bunkers, Crocs, and the new Run-Off Casting Mo-Jo. The Jamaica has openings on today's 3:30 p.m. Magic Hours trip, and also on Sunday's. Reservations for the $80 trip limited to 28 anglers are required by calling 732 528-5014.
Bob Matthews, at Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina, sent the following message: Fishing good today. Fluke in Shark River better day by day. Fred Walsh had a 2lb and a 3lb 8 oz on the L street pier. Charlie Dana and his daughter Kim had 3 keepers to 3lb 8 oz on a rental boat plus many fish just under the legal limit.
The striper action continues to be wild. Frank Conover weighed in a 45lb 8oz bass and Ray Soyka a 41 lb.This is just the ones we weighed, but only the tip of the iceberg. I hope some are being released to keep the cycle going. If you ever want to take a trophy fish now is time to do it.
I'll have an update later.
