The recent reports from the Washington were better than our local canyons for tuna and we had some of our best trips of the entire offshore season down there and that is why we opted to make the long run south but it was not to be, so we ended up in the Baltimore which my latest chlorophyll and sea temp shots showed some good water just to the south of the canyon and out to 500 fathoms. It was just one long night for us in the Baltimore and one of the slowest tuna trips of the entire 2015 season.

Capt Phil and I always work together to help provide our customers with the best tuna fishing possible and we always appreciate any assistance from Phil. When the weather improves it looks like we may have some excellent canyon fishing coming up in late September and October for those that want to load up their freezers with tuna.

I do not know exactly much line was on the 80 as it was put on a few years ago when I fished for Giant Bluefin Tuna down in Morehead City, NC but never thought in a million years a local Big Eye could some close to spooling us with that much drag. We had at least 6-8 bites last night that never came tight so the action was there throughout the night and there was quite a few Big Eyes caught or lost among the 20 or so boats in the local canyon we fished.

The sounder showed more big Eyes than I have seen since a few years ago when we had epic big eye fishing down in the Washington Canyon but it was not until almost dark when we got our bites yesterday. It took us about hour and a half to boat our three big eyes and all were caught on Shutes with large Ballyhoo.

We ran quite a ways to the north where we caught the Bluefins yesterday with the intent to get away from the boat traffic and we did end up with just a couple of boats around us. One of my mates came in from yesterday s trip and headed back out on a private boat to help teach them how to catch Big Eyes and I think they will have a great chance at catching at least one with far less boat traffic tonight compared to the weekend.

After trolling for 2 hours with no signs of life except for Mahi-Mahi we brought in our Yellowfin spread and moved to the Big Eye hole and started our quest for a Devil Tuna. The Cal Star rods can put so much pressure on a big tuna especially in low gear and this all comes from testing on the Long Range boat out of San Diego when they fight 300 lb.

A group of black drum can do great damage to an oyster bed in a single day Tackle and Rigs These are big powerful fish so you want to use medium to heavy tackle. A fish finder rig with beads on both sides on the main line tied to a barrel swivel connected to a short 80 mono leader with a snelled circle hook is the rig I like.

We have a local realtor that my friend Jimmy knows well in Jensen Beach lined up to show us some properties on our way back from the Keys in a few weeks. We left Jensen Beach and drove down to Ramrod Key where we are currently staying at another long time charter captain friend from Indian River, DE who owns the house but still resides full time up north, so we will be living good for the next few weeks with not only his beautiful house but he has a Hyrosport center consoles sitting on a lift in his back yard (on a canal) for our us to use whenever we desire!
