Unfortunately there was sizeable swell and dirty water on the ocean today. Fished the area that has been producing for us and managed more shorts than keepers but it was not enough for the group of regulars we had with us today.
Made one drift in Sandy Hook Bay with the entire fleet and no hits and called it an early day. We were not going to waste our time in the sheltered bay just to put the rest of the day in!!
Started on the offshore grounds this morning with a good drift and had very good fishing most of the morning. We kept making drift after drift where we fished and had very good action and keepers up to 7 pounds.
07 06 15 We started the day with good drifting conditions in an area we found fish yesterday. Wayne Pinder, Green Brook, NJ, had an 8 pound 2 ounce fish as well as a 4 pound 3 ounce fish.
Art Garrett, Red Bank, NJ, took the pool with a very nice 7 pound 6 ounce fish. Wayne Pinder, Green Brook, NJ, had four nice keepers up to 5 pounds 4 ounces.
Dave Brink, Middletown, NJ, had a 7 pound 10 ounce fish and tied for the pool with an identical fish caught by Mark Matlosz, Mahwah, NJ!The two pool fish beat out another 7 pound 3 ounce beauty caught by an angler who's name I failed to get.
Nelson Mendoza, Kinnelon, NJ, had a couple of keepers including the 7 pound 3 ounce pool fish. Joe Nicholson, Garwood, NJ, had a 5 pound 7 ounce fish for his largest of the day.
07 01 15 It was a shame that last night's storms kept a lot of fishermen home today, both on the area boats that got out fishing and the private boats which were totally absent on the bay. After the last couple of days of having to work engines to put some fish in the coolers today we were able to make long drifts where we picked away at a nice mix of keepers and shorts most of the day and ended up with happy fishermen.
