Joe Salerno, East Hanover, NJ, had a 4 pound 11 ounce fish as his largest of the day. Ron Becker, Springfield, NJ, had a 5 pound 9 ounce fish and Joe Stefanelli, Maplewood, NJ, had a 5 pound 3 ounce fish for his largest of the day.
Fished several of the areas where we have been catching some very nice fish lately but found only a little life there today. The guys needed to use some weight but we were able to pick at a mix of shorts and nice keepers on several drifts for the rest of the day.
John Shaffren, Newark, NJ, boated a 9 pound 4 ounce BEAUTY which is our largest of this young fluke season---SO FAR--- and his personal best!!!Mike Panko, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., spent the last day of his vacation fishing with his friends and had a nice 5 pound 1 ounce fish as part of his catch.
We had nice drifting conditions much of the day and the guys using spro rigs did best with the keepers, although natural bait and gulps added fish to the coolers as well. Some of the guys ended up with three and four keepers each and only a few did not wind up with at least one fish to take home.
06 07 14 Started the day in the ocean and had plenty of short action but few keepers. Not enough keepers on a gorgeous day to keep us happy but a good time was had by all.
Tried a number of areas and managed a couple of nice fish in each but it was nowhere near good enough for the nice group we had onboard today. Greg Barnett, Trenton, NJ, took the pool with a nice 6 pound 7 ounce fish on the last drift of the day.
Once again most of the keepers were very nice fish up to 4 pounds. A couple of the guys had three or four fish each and everyone went home with at least one keeper today.
Carmine Rutledge, Newark, NJ, took the pool with a very nice 7 pound 7 ounce fish. Jack Deckert, Blairstown, NJ, was happy with the 6 pound 8 ounce fish which was one of his keepers on the day.
06 02 14 We had no drift with wind against tide the first couple of hours this morning which gave us a slow bite. When the tide finally changed we were able to find a handful of fish on each drift everywhere we stopped for the rest of the day in the bay.
06 01 14 It was a much nicer day with better fishing than we found yesterday. Bucktails and spros had a noticable advantage for the first time this season.
