March kicks off the season with early season Stripers, and a couple weeks later, Winter Flounder. Just a note, once the Bluefishing starts you can pretty much count the Winter Flounder season over.
Still no Bass but large to VERY LARGE Blue fish were on the bunker all afternoon. One time, I saw a Blue coming after the Bunker so I popped it out of the water in an effort to save it.
Boating only a handful of short fluke, a small weakfish, and the usual junkfish. My guess is that as soon as this North East fetch ends the water will drop a couple degrees and the fluke bite will be back to torrid like it has been the past few weeks.
They were loaded close to the beach yesterday (North of the Inlet). If heading out I suggest you look very tight to the beach darn near in the breakers as this is where most of the fish are being caught.
It will be tough going for a while for the sparklers though because the bay is sure to be a mess for at least a couple of days after the blow and salinity will need to normalize before they begin to eat. For those of you not completely familiar with the fishery, spring is prime time for MONSTER tiderunners.
Both the sun and boat traffic will put a damper on the weakie bite. While this is a good color any time of the year for the weak bite, it seems particularly effective in the spring.
