Canyon Runner 48 Reports 186 Big-Eye Yellowfin Longfin Bluefin But SlowingWell we went from 58 yellowfin on the chunk in 2 nights to very hard fishing. So on August 27-28 (Friday-Saturday) with the Carl Bloomfield and Mike Greenberg charter the boys went down to the Toms Canyon and just didn t see the life they needed to see and were lucky enough to nail 2 longfin on the troll right before dark but that was it.
Pleasant, NJ has traveled the world looking for his first blue marlin well he only had to look in his own back yard at 1 hour later a nice 375 pound blue was alongside and released. This was our 7th blue marlin of the young season and ate a ballyhoo on a blue white Ilander.
They started right at the tip this time and had nice life – brids, whales and porpoises and a few fish.They ended up trolling 2 in the afternoon bite and 2 in the morning bite – nothing on the chunk.
On Monday, August 9 Capt. Mark took another open boat charter and headed to the Hudson Canyon this time.As soon as he arrived on the West Wall he had yellowfin in the spread and in 4 hours boated 7 big yellowfin, a wahoo and mahi.
They headed to the Toms Canyon and ran right to the Hendrickson where the 60 Ritchie was in the middle of a nice bite. Up on the trolling in the morning they caught another 3 nice yellowfin and tagged and released a few smaller ones.
1 hour later another blue marlin was laying alongside the boat this one about 375 pounds. That makes it 6 blue marlin for the year and 4th alone on the 60 Ritchie Howell.
They fished the Toms Canyon and got into a nice pick of white marlin going 3 for 4. At night on the chunk they nailed our second sword of the season this one about 100 pounds and picked 4 nice yellowfin on the troll as well.
It was a flat out hot bite though and trolling and chunking only saw 8 yellowfin boated with 5 nice ones kept and 3 thrown back. They bailed out the trip by running inshore by the Chicken Canyon and trolling and jigging 12 bluefin keeping one.
Starting on July 30-31 Capt. Phil Dulanie, Capt. Mike Zajac and Capt. Hook took out the Len DeGilio charter out to the Hudson Canyon but stopped inshore around the Chicken and got into a nice pick of fish on the troll catching a dozen Bluefin with one up to 80 pounds and one under and releasing the rest. They caught a total of 20 yellowfin but only 3 were nice fish and the rest were released.
