Tog fishing has definitely been pretty hit and miss so far this year with a few nice fish coming in out of the deeper water so we were a little apprehensive about what we might be able to do with just the regular full day trips. Even though we ultimately ended up running in excess of twenty miles for our best fishing this past weekend there was finally a good sign of biting fish in some much shallower water than that of just a few short weeks ago giving us hope that we are going to have a normal start to our spring season.

Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report February 5th, 2013 Getting decent weather windows and the patrons to want to go fishing on the same day the weather is right has been an issue here at the Wharf since we have gotten our first real taste of winter, but that all changed this past weekend and we were once again able to get offshore and take advantage of the biting Sea Bass. As the sun came up higher, the moderating winds were shifting directions frequently making it a challenge to stay located but with several anchors and a little persistence, we continued to pick away at some quality fish and by mid morning some anglers had already made quick work of a limit or near limit catch with Sea Bass that would weigh as much as 2 to 4 pounds on the average.

Capt. H did tell me he didn't have the all-limit catch with the Bass like the previous trip however with the variety and the size of the fish the coolers were looking pretty impressive by the end of the day and the ride home was on a mirror like Ocean which is a sight seldom seen for the second week of January. Sea Bass, Tog and even Stripers were being landed in areas that are not typically that common for seeing any amount fish for the middle of January, but most of the weekend fishermen that were out saw good fishing no matter what they were targeting.

The long anticipated and overdue opening for the Black Sea Bass finally came to fruition at the beginning of the new year and we were able to take advantage of this opening in a big way over the weekend and started out our 2013 fishing season in style! It was very nice to get back out on these fish this time of the year and be able to once again have the opportunity to catch these Jumbos! We have several more of these long-range trips on the schedule but remember this Sea Bass opening is only going to last for January and February at which time the fishcrats are shutting it down until who knows when at this point in time.

Tog fishing was pretty impressive all weekend with some of the best Tog fishing we have seen this fall and late last week we were blessed with the news that we would have an opening on the first of January for the Black Sea Bass allowing us to be able to run trips fishing for them starting the 1st of the New Year! After the last weekend that we had fishing I was actually looking foreword to getting back out just this past weekend and trying our luck again on some of the big Tog we had seen the week before. It was the second time in less than a week that I could boast of multiple limits of nice Tog around the boat!On Saturday we had over double the amount of anglers that I had the day before and with high hopes I headed back out into the same depth range I fished on Friday eager to have of another good day with the fish.

Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report December 12th, 2012 Here we are nearly to the middle of December with our regular 2012 fishing season winding down and I can finally put up a report that actually has to do with decent weather and with catching some fish!Last weekend we actually saw our first ray of hope with the tog and finally had some fish biting and we even saw some cleaner than normal water out away from the mouth of the Bay for a change.

For the last several weeks, actually since the passing of hurricane Sandy, our time on the water has been very limited and the winds seem to never really stop. We have encountered strange current directions in the way the tides have been flowing, the water clarity has suffered immensely, and the fishing with the exception of the Stripers has been next to nil.

Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report November 14th, 2012 In the last couple of weeks I can count our fishing trips on my fingers and I would literally only have to use one hand. We joked at the end of the summer with water temperatures still teetering up around 80 degrees that it would be November or December before the water cooled down enough for the Tog fishing to get good.

Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report November 1st 2012 By the grace of God, we here in Lewes have basically dodged a major bullet, and compared to other ports up and down the coast have basically come away from the passing of this late season storm unscathed. We will try for Stripers this weekend on both Saturday and Sunday and departure time for this trip is at 8 00 a. m. I spoke with Capt. H. D. about his upcoming offshore trips and he will be rearranging the schedule now due to the Sea Bass closure but thinks that the next long rang trip will be in two weeks.

Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report October 18th 2012 I really don't have too much to report over the past seven days, we have now dropped back to a four day a week schedule fishing on just Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday's fishing over top of shipwrecks and artificial reefs and now that the Sea Bass Season is closed for a couple weeks we will be fishing for primarily Tautog. We did manage to get away from the docks for four different trips last week including our last 10-hour Sea Bass trip for the end of the split season, as well as a few inshore trips fishing for both Sea Bass and Tautog.
