1000's of NJ Saltwater Fishing Reports, Dozens of Sources, Maps, Wrecks, Historical Search

Party boats were finally able to get out on Sunday, but a leftover ground swell from the storm resulted in a slow bite. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar reported it was nice when they got offshore, but there were was only one short tog plus bergalls on an inshore stop. About 20 fish were caught out in 100 feet, including a keeper blackfish, a few ling and a legal cod. The bite improved as the swell dropped down, and there seemed to be hope for later in the week. They won't be sailing on Monday. The Big Mohawk saw enough life to look forward to a Monday trip from Belmar with a good weather forecast.  The Golden Eagle from Belmar has maintenance scheduled the next two days, but will try to get out for mackerel or cod later in the week. Dave Lilly of Hazlet saw worms coming out of the ground during the rain, and that's his indication that striper fishing is underway. The first few were reported in Raritan Bay before the water got dirty, but they should be biting again on clams this week. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park reports there were quite a few anglers out on the surf Saturday afternoon. Bass were also caught in the bay on blood worms, while small lures also work at dusk.
