The Somerset Saltwater Expo opened Friday to what South Plainfield surf pro Allen Riley described as a "mob scene". He noted that parking lots never used before had to be opened to handle the crowd. The Expo runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and I'll be doing a striped bass seminar at 11:30 along with Chuck Many, the most dedicated private striper skipper in the state, with a special slideshow -- and Capt. Hans Kaspersetz of Sheri Berri at Highlands. Gary Quon of Tady Lures will conclude the seminar with info on how to use his unique metal lures before providing a free sample to each angler attending. I'll be looking forward to meeting readers of this blog. There will also be many other seminars provided during the day, as will be the case on Sunday when the Expo runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit www.sportshows.com for the seminar schedule and other attractions. With northeast winds and rain in the forecast, the Ocean Explorer from Belmar will be holding off sailing for cod tomorrow -- and Sunday also looks poor. A return to west winds at the beginning of the week should improve our fishing fortunes.
