Though there have been few occasions lately when it was possible to get out to the canyons, there was some good news from the Canyon Runner out of Point Pleasant and the Jamaica from Brielle. The Canyon Runner report from Sunday follows: 's 60' Canyon Runner Trip - 10/8/16 Yes - Saturday, October 9, 2016 ********************************* Double Digit Tuna - Big Yellowfin and Longfin and tons of Mahi to 20 pounds. Makos and Swords too this week. With the fishing this good we need to get out as soon as the wind lets up and have a couple spots open this Wednesday-Thursday at a deep discount - call ASAP to secure it - it won't last long  732-272-4445 Once again this year the water shows up, the yellowfin show up on the chunk (and the longfin on the troll) and then another tropical system blows us away.  We got out with both boats Friday to Saturday fishing in what was very nice weather for most of the trip and arrived in the Hudson Canyon at the same time it appears a new body of water arrived. We did the pot hopping thing and both boats caught as many mahi as they wanted up to 20 pounds putting more than enough meat in the box. Capt. Phil Dulaine on the 60 Ritchie put the Jarod Kaporino charter on the troll and very quickly had 5 rods go off with longfin breaking all over. Jets and Canyon Runner mini-mamba bars got the bites and a couple longfin hit the deck. Continuing on the troll they had another 3 bagger before dark and ended the afternoon troll bite with 5 longfin. The night bite saw more mahi and a few sharks until just before dusk when the yellowfin showed up under the boat. For an hour they had them under the boat and the charter did a good job considering it was their first offshore trip ever.  They put 4 stud yellowfin in the boat in an hour - but the one we lost cost us more.  We had to chase down the biggest fish and in so doing we lost the school or probably would have had a bunch more. These yellowfin were all 60-70+ pounds so that was enough for the group anyway and they went home early. Earlier in the week Captain Phil had the John Celentano charter out with his sons and the sons had a blast with a bunch of sharks and a ton of mahi including multiple makos including this one below caught by Rocco Celentano. We got good weather coming for mid-week with a couple spots open that we'll discount. The Jamaica has had lots of dolphin action on their last few trips, with over 200 caught during the last two sailings. Last Tuesday they had lots of of tuna under the boat, though they wouldn't hit. Russ Masscotti did boat a 60-pound yellowfin.  Thursday's trip produced several swordfish. A 159-pound sword was boated Friday night, and a couple lost. Several tuna were caught Sunday night, and others lost. There may be a spot available on Tuesday's 31-hour sailing. Call 732 528-5014. The Tackle Box in Hazlet reports seven-year-old Jack Killian of Middlesex boated a 28-pound striper on a Tsunami popper while fishing Saturday in the rain on Raritan Bay.   Bob Matthews reports from Fisherman's Den in Belmar Marina that Capt. George Steller caught stripers Saturday from his Terri Jean, including a 31-pounder by Mike Reagan and others in the 15-pound class. Matthews noted that Shark River produced some winter flounder and large kingfish today, while Ramon Iglesies of Tinton Falls weighed in a 5 5/8-pound blackfish from shore. I doubt that any boats sailed in today's gale. Though only a north wind was forecast for today, it was actually northwest and may have knocked down the rough surf somewhat.
