The northwest wind finally came on this afternoon, and it's unlikely that any boats were still offshore by then -- or that any will be going tomorrow if the weather forecast holds. Some boaters trolled big stripers Friday in the Island Beach State Park area.  Capt. Chris Di Stefano of Wall was aboard Frank Criscola's North Rip as a large bass was lost on a bunker spoon before they had to put in quite a bit of time before boating an 18-pounder.  Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park weighed a 48-inch, 39.85-pound bass  trolled Thursday by Phil La Grossa on a bunker spoon. Allen Whupel beached a 14-pound on bait that day, and Jerry Sedwick used clam in the surf this morning for a 29-inch, 8.2-pound striper. Anglers who showed up at my garage sale this morning despite the rain told me there was a big swell on the beach, and the water was dirty. The northwester should finally flatten the surf and the waters should clear after a couple of tide changes. Since some didn't make it this morning, I'll be running the second day of the garage sale at 1552 Osprey Ct., Manasquan Park 08736 Sunday morning from 9 a.m. to noon. Folks - it's still excellent tuna fishing out there - we had our 6th trip in a row with double digit catches of 40-80 pound yellowfin and nice longfin.On Monday to Tuesday Capt. Phil Dulanie with Capts. Kevin Muller and Ryan Britt in the pit had out an open boat trip with Brian Burns, Robert Berg and Mark Pellingra and they got exactly what they wanted - while having to deal with a little uncomfortable conditions for part of the trip. We were stuck fishing in less than ideal conditions which hurt us in putting together a limit catch - and really hurt Monday afternoon as it was almost too rough to fish - but we caught a couple 60# yellowfin during the day and spiced it up with mahis so plenty of action to make the seas conditions an afterthought.Once it laid down we started a slow pick in the evening with 3 tuna and a decent sword we kept and a second we released and as the sun came up (including 2 we caught on the chunk during the day Monday) we had 5 tuna in the boat and a sword. The morning bite was decent with 5 more tuna hitting the deck out of a bunch hooked. In the end 9 yellowfin (all studs) 1 longfin and 2 swords. All on the chunk day and night.That crew headed back out Wednesday to Thursday with the Lewis Buributt charter and we took them out on the 60 Ritchie as the Hudson was no place for a smaller boat when we got there Wednesday afternoon but once on the hook the 60' Ritchie and the SeaKeeper Gyro took care of business and the group enjoyed a comfortable trip. Hopes were high as the night before it was lights out fishing for the party boats - with 40-45 tuna on the Jamaica and the Mimi.During the day Wednesday only saw a few skippies and a few mahi but no tuna. As night settled in and the seas settled down some smaller yellowfin that we really hadn't seen much of arrived and we caught 4 before sun-up - then the bite came on as we caught another 8 between 7am and 9am when the charter informed us they had enough and couldn't reel anymore so we left them biting. Went home with an even dozen!They are out there right now on our 3rd trip this week with fish in the slick and 1 or 2 on. A ton of boats Thursday night did really well as there were about 30 boats in Hudson and as far as we could tell many boats flat out crushed em. We had a pick so far and working towards another double digit catch just not there yet.Again folks - we are coming down the stretch and only have maybe one or two more windows to get out next week into the weekend then it's on to Striper Fishing.
