The best report today came from the Golden Eagle out of Belmar which reported a super day of fishing for bonito, little tunny and chub mackerel -- along with a 20-to-25-pound yellowfin tuna boated and another lost. Hopefully, those mullet will move out into the ocean after Sunday's east winds to get the fall surf striper run started early.
Put the spread out while we looked around Got covered up with skippies and albies, but had the right readings with them. Started jigging and chunking and Greg hooks up to a nice 35# yft immediately on a jig. Kyle was next and landed his first tuna ever right around 50#.
Yellowfin tuna fishing has turned on again in the canyons. The Canyon Runner from Point Pleasant had the Vince Huffnagel party out this week as 27 big yellowfins were boated in just three hours. At Belmar, the Golden Eagle reported lots of action with chub mackerel plus sea bass, ling, fluke and blues.
A very good trip today especially with probably a hundred boats all anchored around us. I do believe we could have doubled our catch today if it had been a weekday with far less boat traffic but overall we were very pleased to boat the ones we did today.
