After a stretch of cold and windy weather, it looks as if there will finally be some fishable conditions this week. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar will try to get out for cod, and I suspect there will be a revival of the winter flounder bite at that marina with sunshine on the warmer outgoing tide. Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park reported lots of worm sales early in the day. They've had word of small stripers and white perch being caught in the bay. I stopped at Castaway's Tackle in Point Pleasant, and was there as Jason Little came in with his new line of Kettle Creek Outfitters soft plastic paddle tails. They look great on a jig head, and I'm also looking forward to casting them on a 1/0 wide gap hook as a surface lure for black bass. Little noted that he just got back from the Florida Keys where he did a job on spotted sea trout with them. Little can be contacted at 732 832-6697 or at kettlecreekoutfitters@gmail.com. Following is the Sunday report from Wabasso, Fl. by Belmar native Capt. Charlie Fornabio: February ended with a good flurry of snook action and then March came roaring in like a lion with 4-5 days of really windy weather. I wound up fishing up the S fork of the Sebastian River and managed to catch a few tarpon and snook on DOA shrimp and Terrorize. The wind laid down on March 8th and I had a really good catch of pompano that afternoon on docs goofy jigs south of the Ft Pierce inlet in the Indian River. I followed that up with a couple of really good days of snook fishing with live baits in between the bridges. Then it got cold for 3 days so I built a chicken coop for my daughters 2 hens she arrived home with a few weeks ago as they have outgrown the cardboard box and are in need of quality housing. Today the sun came out and the temperature went up to almost 70. I had a good trip this morning highlighted by a 10 pound gag grouper .The water temperature is at 67 degrees but should rebound back into the low 70s in a day or two. The weather looks good for the near future. Florida is really bustling now with tourists. The phone is ringing. The chickens are happy. Life is good. I will try to be more punctual with my reports. Give me a call and lets go fishing.Capt Charlie Fornabiofishingverobeach.com772 360 7647
