    Posted on August 14, 2020 Doormat boated on the Fishermen The largest party boat fluke reported to this blog so far was caught today on the Fishermen from Atlantic Highlands. Capt. Ron Santee reported that Joe the Plumber lost a monster in the morning, but came back in the afternoon to boat a 3-pounder, a 5-pounder and then a 31 1 2-inch doormat that weighed 12 pounds, 14 ounces.

    I think tomorrow is kind of the same forecast but my local weather says no rain. Its hard enough trying to put a catch together and I believe Saturday if the forecast holds true it will be more of a boat ride then a fishing trip.

    Today s report from the Golden Eagle out of Belmar emphasized that report by noting they had uncountable numbers of the small mackerel which are easy for even beginners to catch on small jigs and mackerel multiple jigging rigs. Fortunately, chubs have filled a void and provide lots of good eating for anglers who may not get into blues some days.

    Had Matt out with the fellas, started at the inshore grounds and went 10-15 on 60lb yellows in first hour to start the trip. Ran to the Hudson and trolled looking for some bites no luck, decided to daytime drop for swords, drifted and dreamed for over and hour and changed gears finished up the trip banging some mahi and tiles before making the hour 45 minute cruise back to the dock before dinner.

    Posted on August 12, 2020 Lots of billfish recorded at WMO, but few tuna, dolphin and wahoo The species count provided by the White Marlin Open for last week s tournament is impressive, though there were some species which were in short supply. The Golden Eagle from Belmar started jigging bluefish this morning, but the blues didn t hit well and they ended up adding some sea bass and fluke.

    Maryland, following his win with Crisdel from Brielle Yacht Club last year in the tuna division, by boating a 77-pound white marlin that was initially tied for first and ended up winning 206 000. I never thought the early tuna entries would stand up, but the bigeyes couldn t be located even by such specialists as Canyon Runner and MJ s. Travis Ort from York, Pa. was the biggest beneficiary of that blue marlin money as he was in the right Calcuttas to win 1.

    Got to the grounds and found the life but no takers on the troll. What made the day special was that 3 of the guys had never caught a tuna before, congrats guys!
