Posted on December 8, 2020 Stripers still biting boat surf The northwest wind sure isn t bothering striped bass in NY NJ Bight, and the cold hasn t sent them fleeing to the south. Bob Matthews at Fisherman s Den in Belmar Marina noted that the early bite has often been poor due to low waters, but it may turn on later in the morning.
Started out with a dozen stripers to get the day started, then went hunting for bluefin tuna, saw a few but not in casting range. Took a break and hit a wreck for tog, got covered up with dogs, went back to stripers landing another dozen on a gorgeous day!
Boaters may take another day off Sunday as the forecast is for northwest at 20-25 knots with gusts to 30 and 4-6-foot seas. However, Santee won t sail on Sunday due to the forecast that will result in nasty fishing conditions.
I have been getting calls today from customers of other boats saying the boat they usually fish on is cancelling tomorrow. Its going to be to nasty and unsafe to be out there tomorrow especially where we have been catching the stripers.
