    We saw plenty of life today with bunkers on top, and at times, we read them top to bottom. We did look offshore today where we had big blues a couple of days ago but we couldn t find them.

    Mate Steve Tosti didn't have any trouble loading a cooler with bunker after a few throws of a castnet even though we didn't leave until 9 a. m. Bluefish have been a big problem for those seeking stripers in Rartan Bay, so Contello ran to the Hudson River and waited out the bite on chunked bunker. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant also jigged 1-to-4-pound blues, but were fortunate enough to add a couple of stripers up to 30 pounds.

Blues have been hitting hard with a few Striped Bass mixed in on the night 7pm trips.

    Sat and Sunday were not good for us with no keeper bass and very little action on shorts. Anglers did hook 6 short fluke, which went back not only as they were undersize, but the season is closed.

    The 26th Annual Governor's Surf Fishing Tournament was held May 21 at Island Beach State Park under blue skies and a light easterly wind. More than 600 participants enjoyed the day with family and friends, including Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs program participants and thirteen teams from seven different schools in the brand new High School Team Category. DEP Commissioner Bob Martin along with Division of Fish and Wildlife Acting Director Larry Herrighty assisted with the awards ceremony

    Sorry for the late report but Capt. Howard ran the boat on Sunday. I am not sure if I will start fishing for Fluke daily after Sunday I will play that by ear and let you know at the end of this week.

    This was their first Striped Bass charter and they were anxious to go despite the rain and marginal conditions. The reads were spread out and the bites came slow but over the course of a few hours the group managed to put 3 nice Bass into the boat.

    Atlantic Highlands stripe bass and bluefish May 21 21 May 2017 Capt. Tom Made both morning and afternoon trips again today. On the morning trip we fished in Sandy Hook bay and we picked at the bluefish and caught a keeper stripe bass.
