This morning, we continued to fish well north of shark river inlet. We picked some 2-4 lb bluefish tight on the beach and had a shot of some 5-10 pounders later on in the day. It was a slow day but each day it is still continuing to improve.
It was really nice out there today, much better than yesterday....so calm we did not even drift much..hurt our fluke fishing for sure....pretty slow there....luckily there were some nice sea bass to catch in between. guys who were jigging for the fluke got into some really nice sea bass.
Anglers aren't missing much as John Bushell of Betty Nick's Tackle in Seaside Park had called the fishing horrible -- probably due to the cold waters resulting from a week of south winds. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar experienced poor fluke fishing today due to the cold waters, though a 7-pound fluke was boated.
Being in all the Calcuttas was the key to success for the second place boat in Mako Mania as Water Proof won the biggest share of the purse for their 218-pound mako even after being pushed back by Thor's 276-pounder. The weather has been great but the fishing has not. We have been trying different places in Sandy Hook and Raritan bays. We keep trying everyday and hopefully the fishing will improve. We are half day fishing for fluke everyday.
