    4-5-17 We did have a small ground swell out there today and fog but overall a nice day. Pool fish were up about 6 lbs and some guys had 2-3 keepers a piece to go home with along with shorts so I can actually say it was a big improvement even though we had that swell.

    Local anglers are hoping for signs of the first bluefish that provided great shore casting last spring, but Mark Roy of Warren wasn't happy this morning when he heard that big blues had shown up off Miami. Roy managed to get Billfish Foundation tags into several of those sails, including my first which the skipper estimated at an unusually large 80 pounds -- more like the size of a Pacific sailfish.

    It's not time for tuna yet, but the Canyon Runner from Point Pleasant warns that they're almost sold out for the first part of the season. There are only nine days available until then on the 60-foot Canyon Runner and eight days on the 48-footer.
