Posted on April 16, 2019 Epic day in Raritan Bay Yesterday s blog title couldn t have been more accurate as striped bass did indeed turn on in Raritan Bay after the northwest gale. Tank Matraxia of Lyndhurst was talking to me on the cell phone about the hot bite when his rod in the holder bent over as a large bass hit the shad lure being dead-sticked.
I have been doing this over 30 years and have seen lots of great days but today was in the top ten maybe even in the top five. It was a pleasure out there I was the only party boat and there were around 10 charter boats, all professionals with no weekend warriors driving around like maniacs putting the fish down.
Yesterday the Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands had good bass readings but few bites. Today was nice on the ocean, but small craft warnings went up today at 11 a. m. and extend through late Monday night.

When casting shads didn t work, they anchored up and caught a couple of keepers plus some shorts. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar reported good life on bottom with short blackfish and some keepers plus a few cod and ling.
Atlantic Highlands stripe bass fishing April 14 14 April 2019 Capt. Tom Made both morning and afternoon trips for stripe bass again today. When the weather settles we will be fishing for stripe bass everyday making two trips ( 8am to 12 30 and 1 30 to 6pm).
