    Joe Melillo reported a big breakthrough on the surf this morning as Mark Malfa of Brick weighed a 27-pound striper at Castaway's Tackle in Point Pleasant after catching it in the dark on an SP Minnow. John Bushell, at Betty Nick's, heard from a regular who had been catching blues in the inlet on bucktails since 2 a. m. Allen Riley of South Plainfield put up with a steady drizzle at Sandy Hook as he saw Dan Brodzinsky, The Tin Man, catch two small bass on a new Tin Man Tackle jig with a white tail Riley did nothing on either lures or fresh bunker until getting ready to leave when a 30-inch bluefish crashed a bunker chunk and was released.

    Got set up and and had immediate action with blues and bass. Managed to land 4 unders (only keeping legal limit) to 16 pounds and a short with a bunch of blues by 8:30 when the guys said time to fluke. Took a ride and found some great action with a steady pick of shorts and keepers on light tackle.

    The weather was not as nice as we would have liked but we made Made both morning and afternoon trips again today. On the morning trip we had action with the shorts and picked a few keeper fluke.

    Didn't sail Monday Morning due to the weather but Capt. Dan managed to take out the Monday Night faithful for Striped Bass on the 6 30 pm trip.  Several nice fish were caught on fresh bunkers. Weather today (Tuesday) was Crap, once again. We did manage some keeper Fluke. Everyone went home with dinner but it is certainly not easy fishing right now.

    The opener of sea bass was Friday, and if you had good sea legs, that WAS definitely a plus! Fishing was good but there was a price to pay! Big swell and hard currents but the fishing was good! There was a few guys with limits of 10.

    After bringing in the first mako shark and school bluefin tuna from the canyons earlier in the week, the Canyon Runner from Point Pleasant ran a Saturday to Sunday overnighter that produced the first yellowfin tuna (about 35 pounds) and two dolphin from canyons in over 1000 fathoms off Delaware for David Stratoff and his son. Honors for the first N. J. bigeye tuna fell to a boat in the Canyon Runner reporting team as the Flying Fish landed one in Cape May on the way back from North Carolina.
